AN AIRMAN who died in a parachuting accident is to be remembered with a special friendship bench at his former primary school a year after his death.
Andrew Wilson died after jumping out of an aeroplane at Peterlee last June. Now a bench designed to help pupils forge new relationships and prevent bullying has been unveiled in his memory at St Helen Auckland Primary School.
It has been funded with cash presented to the school by Mr Wilson's RAF comrades 34 Squadron, from RAF Leeming and will assist with the school's anti-bullying scheme.
Mr Wilson's mother Christine said she was proud to have her son remembered in this way.
She said: "It is such a good scheme. I think Andrew would love it."
Under the initiative, youngsters can sit on the bench at break times and another pupil - called a 'buddy' - will come to talk to them and help them get involved in activities.
