POLICE have appealed for information after a householder confronted a man in his garden shed this week.
They believe the incident, which happened at lunchtime on Monday in Durham Road, Wolsingham, could be connected with a sneak-in theft in nearby Lydgate Lane at about the same time.
Detective Inspector Billy Hugill said: "We are warning people to be extra-careful about security.
"We have had a number of sheds broken into around the area and are warning people to be extra vigilant.
"When the weather is fine, they should also be careful not to leave their house doors open, because that is the opportunity for someone to sneak in and take what they can find."
The man was in his 50s, stocky and had a shaved head. Anyone who saw anything suspicious is asked to call Crook or Bishop Auckland CID on 0845 6060365.
