Sad loss: Durham intends to bulldoze community sport and leisure facilities in favour of posh apartments.
At least this is the impression given by the glossy, hi-tech video presentation and accompanying questionnaire that is currently on display at Durham Clayport Library.
The proposed development is to be constructed following the destruction of the popular Meridian Health Club (swimming pool and gyms) and adjoining bowling centre.
The Meridian is conveniently situated in the centre of town and is enjoyed by young and old, general public and students alike.
Exercise is vital for everyone and Durham has little enough in the way of facilities.
The questionnaire carefully avoids mentioning the demolition of the Meridian and the bowling centre. Come on Durham Think again!

Still waiting: Re What about us, (Advertiser, week ending June 18), concerning Grape Lane.
We live in Oswald Court, which was built approximately 42 years ago.
There are 19 flats - consisting of 16 one-bedroomed, two bedsits, and one two-bedroomed. We are still waiting for interior modernisation and double glazing.
It would be nice to know how the council decides which houses, flats or bungalows come next on the list for modernisation. If the lady is correct we shall have to wait until they redo the 12 flats across the road which are already double-glazed and modernised.
