A BUSINESSMAN has challenged councils to help create a long-term venue for skateboarders and BMX riders.
On Sunday, the last BMX Jam will be held at Hangar 2 Skate Park, in Thornaby, before the venue closes to make way for housing.
David Scott, the owner of the site, which has attracted riders and boarders from across the UK, said he would donate equipment if a Teesside council finds a new venue.
He said: "If a local authority has a suitable building, I will happily donate all the BMX and skateboard ramps and equipment currently in the hangar in exchange for a nominal fee, which will be given to a local charity."
Mr Scott saved the 25,000ft sq skate park a year ago when liquidators were called in after the former owner ran into financial difficulties.
He said: "Our young people will need somewhere to go when the doors close for the last time, and there's a lot of valuable equipment in there that can be moved elsewhere."
Sunday's event will start at noon and will involve participants from all over the UK.
