A FURNITURE store for people in need was opened yesterday in Northallerton.
The new Richmond and Hambleton Furniture Store, on the Standard Way industrial estate, will take referrals from agencies dealing with people in need.
A nominal charge for furniture is made.
T he store has been running for 15 years in the Richmond area, but has now expanded to set up a base in Hambleton. It will take referrals from both districts.
Hambleton District Council has given the charity behind the store a £5,500 grant towards start-up costs. The bulk of the cash for the scheme has come from the Community Recycling and Economic Development Programme.
Councillor David Blades, Hambleton council cabinet member for housing, opened the store.
