PUPILS from a primary school that is due to close have achieved their best results in a town sports tournament.
Youngsters from Rise Carr Primary School, Darlington, scored big successes in the Darlington Primary School Athletics Competition this week.
The school, which will close next month, won two gold medals and finished fourth overall, its best finish ever.
Teacher Judith Thompson, who coached the youngsters for the events, said she was very proud.
"All the children did really well, and really wanted to do themselves proud because it's the last year we'll be able to enter.
"We all wanted to go out on a high," she said.
"It's ironic that we've done so well just before we have to close, but we're exceptionally proud of the children's hard work and their achievement."
