Crook residents have been called to a meeting next week to discuss plans to turn a town centre stream into a community beauty spot.
The Watergate Warriors youth group has already started the project to brighten up Crook Beck by recording people's ideas on camera.
Their efforts are part of a feasibility study, which has been co-ordinated by Groundwork West Durham on behalf of the Environment Agency.
The film will be shown at the public meeting, at 6pm on Wednesday in Crook Town Cricket Club, Dawson Street.
Environment Agency project manager Peter Kerr said: "This beck is a hidden gem in the middle of Crook that could become a focal point for the whole community and a haven for wildlife.
"This public meeting is an opportunity for people to come along with their ideas to help us transform the area for future generations of residents to enjoy."
Suggestions have so far included improvements to the walkways, educational areas and wildlife areas.
Groundwork's Wear Valley project officer Oliver Graham said: "People have told us that they want to see the beck cleared of rubbish and some of the old concrete channels taken up. Other ideas have also included pools, fish ponds and improvements to wildlife habitats.
"The beck has huge potential and the meeting will give local residents the chance to discuss their hopes and aspirations for it.
