A ONCE notorious criminal is struggling to rid himself of the drug addiction behind his offending, a court heard.
Shaun McKerry, 21, was dubbed 'Homing Pigeon Boy' by police who became familiar with his habit of returning home after committing crime.
Durham Crown Court heard he has 28 convictions covering 174 offences, including 40 for theft and burglary.
Yesterday, McKerry, of Benbow Walk, Coundon, admitted breaching a drug treatment order, imposed last November after he admitted burglary.
He had failed to attend two assessment sessions, in April.
Anthony Braithwaite, for McKerry, said: "He's trying to get through this intensive course, having been a heavy drug user."
Recorder Jonathan Aitken agreed not to take any action, but urged McKerry to make the most of the chance.
