RESIDENTS are being urged to ignore letters claiming they have hit the jackpot on a foreign lottery.
Trading standards officers said the mailshots tell householders they have won hundreds of thousands of dollars in the Spanish Elgordo national lottery.
The letter, sent from Spain, asks the recipient to complete and return a payment processing form, including full bank details, so prize payment can be organised.
Michael Welsh, Hartlepool Borough Council's principal trading standards officer, said: "This is yet another scam aimed at getting your personal bank details.
"Our advice to anyone who receives this letter is simple - throw it straight into the bin."
