TODDLERS were given bright ideas at their nursery about how to stay safe.
Children at Staindrop Primary School were given high-visibility fluorescent jackets, as part of Child Safety Week, to show the importance of road safety.
Pupils will wear their jackets when they walk to the neighbouring Small World Nursery for their after-school activities club.
The initiative also forms part of Durham County Council's school travel plan, which aims to find safer and more active ways of children travelling to school.
Noreen Youll, school travel planning advisor, said the project proved an ideal opportunity to draw attention to walking to school as an alternative form of travel.
Ms Youll said: "Primary and nursery school children wearing their high visibility jackets will not only ensure that their presence is felt by local drivers, but also will set a good example to others who are interested in setting up 'walking buses' and other similar schemes."
