BRITISH Waterways has launched a drive to make sure people enjoy North Yorkshire's rivers and reservoirs safely during the summer.
The organisation is working with schools to teach children to be aware of hazards.
General manager Laurence Morgan said: "North Yorkshire has some fine waterways, offering opportunities for walking, fishing and watching the wildlife, but visitors should also take care.
"The sun only warms the top few inches of water - a couple of feet down, the water is very cold."
