THE region's businesses will be invited to enter for an award today.
The Queen's Award for Enterprise recognises achievement and is internationally recognised, providing a promotional and marketing tool.
Stephen Brice, secretary to the Queen's Awards Office, said: "Over the years, the North-East has produced many worthy winners, and I know there are a good number of quality companies in the region that stand a realistic chance of winning a Queen's Award next year."
The awards are open to companies of any size. There are three categories: international trade; innovation; and sustainable development; as well as an individual award for promoting enterprise.
At a networking event today at Lumley Castle, near Chester-le-Street, Mr Brice will urge North-East businesses to enter the awards.
The deadline is October 31. For details, call 0207 222 2277, or visit www.queens awards.org.uk
