PUPILS were put through their paces by the Army yesterday.
Eleven teams took part in the annual Green Howards Adventurous Activities competition, at Richmond Castle, in Richmond, North Yorkshire.
Each team of ten students was tested, physically and mentally.
The youngsters attempted an assault course, took part in a "mountain bike Grand National", and negotiated a rope slide.
There were also games of football, cricket, basketball and a quiz at the Green Howards Museum. The event was organised by No 122 Army Youth Team (Green Howards) and the Richmondshire sports development team, with help from the Green Howards Museum, the King's Division recruiting team and Cleveland Orienteering Club.
Roger Chapman, from the museum, said: "This is the seventh year we have held this exciting competition, which provides a great day out for the teams.
"Like the Green Howards, the teams always display a spirit of adventure and competitiveness."
For the second year in succession, the competition was won by a team from Teesdale School.
