A NEW community caf proved so successful on its opening day that it nearly sold out of food.
The Green Leaf Caf, is part of the massive refurbishment of Horden Welfare Park and is located in the former ambulance house building.
Along with the newly upgraded welfare park, the good food caf opened its doors for the first time last weekend.
As well as creating a community enterprise and local jobs, the caf was established to provide a place where people from the local area can meet, relax and enjoy good food with healthy eating options.
Easington Action Team for Jobs advisor Lynn Golightly said: "The jobs created are just what the area needs. The Action Team has supported all of those who have been recruited into permanent part-and full-time jobs.''
Dorrit Manson, who revealed how the caf he manages had nearly been overtaken by its own success when it almost ran short of food, said: "The caf is providing excellent, quality food made from local produce, where possible, and offers value for money.''
The Green Leaf Caf is located on Park Road in Horden, next to the entrance to the park.
