SCARBOROUGH is to have a new lifeboat thanks to Eric Plaxton, the former boss of the Plaxton luxury coach building empire, who left £10m in his will.
Mr Plaxton who died nine years ago, left the money to be invested and spent on a range of projects.
Over the years, it has benefited many organisations and built sheltered homes for the elderly.
Now one of his favourite charities, the RNLI, is to receive £1m to provide a lifeboat that will be the most modern in Britain, said lifeboat station spokesman and crewman Colin Lawson.
It will be named after Mr Plaxton and will replace a 17-year-old boat, which was launched by The Duchess of Kent.
