A COMMUNITY has joined forces to raise money for an insulin pump to be used by a Weardale youngster.
Dr Steve Lumb and Dr Nick Deytrich are taking part in a mini marathon from Killhope to Stanhope along with a group of fundraisers, called the Weardale Whippets.
Money raised will also be boosted by members of Independence 4 Disability, a charity that aims to improve the lives of families of children with disabilities, who will take part in a sponsored wheelchair walk from Harperley Prisoner of War Camp to Killhope Wheel.
Participants of both events events on Sunday are raising money for Dr Bill Lamb's Run 500 miles Appeal.
Dr Lamb, of Bishop Auckland General Hospital, is raising money to give all diabetic youngsters in his care an insulin pump.
The new pump will cost about £2,500 and will be used by a child in the dale.
Heather Blackburn, who founded Independence 4 Disability with partner Alistair Howe, said: "We want to say a big thank you to everyone who has given up their time to help us raise money for such a worthy cause. The most important participants of all are the people of Weardale and visitors. Without the generosity of our supporters this event could not be possible."
