SCHOOL pupils are preparing to take part in a record-breaking performance of Shakespeare's plays at the weekend.
About 80 youngsters from four schools will appear at the Georgian Theatre Royal in Richmond, North Yorkshire, on Sunday evening.
They will join 10,000 young actors performing half-hour adaptations of Shakespeare's Animated Tales in 100 theatres across the country.
The BBC sponsored event is part of the Shakespeare Schools Festival.
Bridget Foreman, from the National Youth Theatre, gave the youngsters some tips and voice coaching at the Georgian Theatre yesterday.
She said: "It's a record-breaking attempt to have so many simultaneous performances of Shakespeare's plays.
"All being well, we will be in the Guinness Book of Records 14 times."
The four schools performing at the theatre are The Wensleydale School, Leyburn; St Francis Xavier School, Richmond; Manor School, York and Boroughbridge High School.
The plays being performed are Macbeth, The Tempest, Twelfth Night and a Midsummer Night's Dream.
Tickets for the performance cost £7 for adults and £5 for concessions. Call the box office on (01748) 825252 to book.
