YOUNG artists were presented with prizes from Durham Constabulary's Assistant Chief Constable Gary Barnett yesterday.
It was during Easington's Safety Carousel event in April that all the youngsters taking part were invited to come up with an eye-catching poster design featuring themes covered at the annual event.
Since then, a panel of judges has been assessing the entries and the overall winner was announced yesterday as Sophie Garrett from Yoden Primary School in Horden.
The runners-up were Daniel Farrell from Blackhall Primary, Lauren Maddison from Cotsford Junior School in Horden and Rebecca Young from Easington Colliery Primary.
The Carousel is organised each year to make children aware of how to keep safe in the home, school and at play.
Workshops were held during the day highlighting the potential dangers around fire, water and particularly on railway lines.
Yesterday Asst Chief Const Barnett travelled to Peterlee police office to hand out the prizes to all those who entered the winning posters.
