A WARNING has been issued after a doorstep scam by a bogus charity worker.
The man called at the home of a woman in Hutton-le-Hole, near Pickering, North Yorkshire, and sold her a pair of scissors for £9.
The woman paid by cheque, which was later altered and cashed for £99.
The man said he was working for a charity.
Councillor John Fort, of North Yorkshire County Council, said: "Please be aware of this when opening the door to any unknown person or trader.
"Our advice is never to trade with cold-callers; you never know who you are dealing with.
"Always check identity cards and make sure that you are happy with the information that is on them."
The Northern Echo launched its Doorstoppers campaign last year, warning readers of the dangers of answering their doors to fake officials and cowboy traders.
