A HOODED burglar caught riding off on a stolen bicycle has been jailed.
Career criminal Peter Cessford, 20, of Hendon Valley Court, Hendon, Sunderland, was branded a greedy, remorseless, menace to society by a judge at Newcastle Crown Court yesterday.
The court was told how police, called to investigate a break-in in Nursery Road, Silksworth, caught Cessford cycling a stolen mountain bike and carrying a wallet and mobile telephones stolen from the house.
When interviewed, he admitted a further 33 offences.
When on bail for these offences, Cessford failed to turn up at Sunderland Magistrates' Court on May 13 and burgled another house, in Ryhope, Sunderland on May 18.
Mitigating, Julian Smith said: "When he is not smashing car windows and going for stereos he is going for garden sheds. He is not a very sophisticated offender."
Cessford, who had admitted theft, three counts of burglary, and failing to answer bail, was jailed for two years.
