A PLEA has been made for public support for the County Durham Society for the Blind and Partially Sighted group's fundraising coffee morning, in Chester-le-Street, this Saturday.
The society, which provides services for visually impaired people throughout the county, is in urgent need of funding since it lost the financial support of the Royal National Institute for the Blind, amounting to £7,000 per annum, last year.
Sandra Hillyard, the society's volunteer co-ordinator, said: "While it's a mammoth task, each fundraising event we can hold is a step towards this target. If you're in the area on Saturday why not pop in for refreshments or sandwiches?"
There will also be a sale of plants, books and hand-painted pots.
The sale is at the Parish Centre, Church Chare, from 10am until 2pm.
