CONSTRUCTION students at a North-East college have swept the board at a regional competition.
Students from New College Durham won four of the five sections they entered in the regional finals of the Skillbuild construction challenge, held at the college in Framwellgate Moor.
Gary Weallans won the junior bricklaying competition, James Ross won the junior painting and decorating section, Gareth Hall won the senior painting and decorating competition, narrowly beating fellow student Robert Martindale into second place.
In the senior carpentry section, it was a clean sweep for the host college, with Adam Yews in first place, Andrew Dodds second and Edward Robson third.
Gareth and Adam will now represent the region in national finals, in October.
Mark Anderson, head of school for technology at New College Durham, said: "I doubt if there is another college in the country that has had this success.
"We are extremely proud of all of our construction students and their achievement in this competition is a reflection of the quality of education here."
