A SOLDIER is a step closer to competing in one of the world's toughest competitions.
Captain Louise Brown, who serves with First Battalion, the King's Regiment, at Catterick Garrison, North Yorkshire, is through to the final elimination stage for a place in next year's Fulda Challenge.
The contest tests skiing, mountain biking, ice-climbing and 4x4 driving skills in the Canadian Arctic.
The 29-year-old claimed a place in the European heat by impressing at a selection event at the Commando Training Centre, in Devon, last weekend. She faced a 20km road run, a chasm-crossing, 23km mountain bike race and vehicle-pull.
She said: "I thoroughly enjoyed the weekend. The other competitors were my inspiration and I pushed myself to my limit with their support."
