TWO crime-busters have won a commendation for their dedication.
Police community support officers (PCSO) Kirstin Anderson and Graeme Handley gave chase when they saw two known criminals breaking into a car in Hartlepool.
They saw the duo run into a house, which they kept under watch until police reinforcements arrived to make arrests. The two thieves were subsequently charged with numerous offences and jailed for a total of 360 days.
Cleveland Police say both officers already had outstanding records for helping in arrests, with PCSO Handley assisting in 107 arrests and PCSO Anderson in 70.
Now, they are to be presented with a district commander's commendation.
"It was a surprise and an honour,'' said PCSO Anderson. "This is a fascinating job, made all the better because we are helping the community.''
PCSO Handley said: "We are well-known in our areas and the first point of call for many people if they want to raise issues with the police.''
Hartlepool Police commander Superintendent Dave Horner said: "The work of these two officers is absolutely first class and an example for all. It shows that PCSOs have a major role to play in the extended policing family."
