TWO senior police officers have taken up new posts.
Chief Superintendent Sue Day is now the commander of North Yorkshire Police's eastern area.
She replaces Chief Superintendent David Short, who has moved to the force headquarters at Newby Wiske as head of corporate governance and risk management.
Chief Supt Short's move brings to an end a family tradition of policing in the east of the county, which started with his great-uncle William Hick, who joined Scarborough police in 1895. Mr Short's father served in the Scarborough area for many years, retiring in 1979.
Chief Supt Short said: "The new role I am taking on is a very challenging one.
"The force is breaking new ground in developing corporate governance to ensure clear audit trails and accountability mechanisms are in place."
Chief Supt Day moves in the opposite direction, leaving Newby Wiske where she headed the corporate development department.
In 2004 she transferred to North Yorkshire Police from West Yorkshire, where her last post was as Commander of Leeds City Centre and South Leeds.
She said: "It was about as different an area as you could get from the beautiful and relatively peaceful communities of Hambleton, Ryedale and Scarborough, but the challenge is the same -giving individuals and communities the policing service they deserve.
"My aim is to work with community partners through neighbourhood policing to bring local solutions to local problems."
