A 13-day-old baby has died two days after she being knocked from her pram by a car which mounted the pavement.
The accident happened at 12.50pm on Saturday when the vehicle, involved in a three-car smash, went onto the pavement hitting the baby's pram.
The child fell out of the buggy and onto the ground.
She was taken to Sunderland Royal Hospital by ambulance where she was examined and kept under observation before being discharged later the same day, with no apparent injuries.
However, at 7am today an ambulance was called to the little girl's home, as she was having difficulty breathing.
The baby was taken to Sunderland Royal Hospital but died shortly afterwards.
The accident on Saturday happened on Queensway in Houghton-le-Spring, Tyne and Wear.
Police are investigating the baby's death, but are not treating it as suspicious.
