Swalwell's Mark Cosgrove has been in outstanding form all season and The Australian scored a century in Swallwell's total of 228 all out and then took five wickets.
Neil Wood hit 80, but Ashington managed only 170 all out with Cosgrove taking five for 44.
Leadgate are third and had 128 runs to spare over Annfield Plain.
Rohan Rafique hit 131 and Lee Innes was just two runs short of a century as the opening pair plundered runs to all corners. Masood Mirza continued the onslaught with 72 not out in the total of 313 for one. Mirza then claimed seven for 48, the Annfield innings collapsing to 185 all out.
Benwell and Walbottle finally tasted success at Lanchester to move off the bottom.
Aphale was again in top form with an unbeaten 104 out of a total of 237-5 before Lanchester were 235 all out - Stephen Robinson (56) and Kevin Dixon Jnr (69) their top scorers.
Neil Burdon and Donald Brown both made half-centuries in Shotley Bridge's total of 200-8 before Sacriston replied with only 107 as David Jackson weighed in with four wickets.
