A helpline has been set up to ensure businesses are up-to-date with health and safety legislation.
Occupational health specialist Sheila Flood runs No1 Priority Health, in Consett, and is working to make businesses more aware of their legal obligations.
With marketing support from Business Link County Durham, the company has opened a 24-hourcounselling helpline for employees.
Ms Flood said: "Some companies are switched on to this issue and use us for health screening of their staff, legal advice on employment matters, sickness absence management and, of course, health and safety in the work place."
For more information about the service, call (01207) 583999 or visit www.onepriorityhealth.co.uk
The helpline service costs companies £12 for each employee.
