THE region's specialist technology venture capital business, NorthStar Equity Investors, has recruited Marion Bernard as chief investment officer.
She joins from a London venture capital fund focused on early stage investments. Before that, she was with 3i, where she was senior investment manager in the healthcare division.
During her six years with 3i, she spent two years working in the Newcastle office investing in and realising investments across the region.
She first went to the North-East as an economics student at Newcastle University.
"A lot has changed about the North-East since I was here last," she said.
"I am very much looking forward to providing the investment that new businesses need to fully realise their potential."
Gerry White will be senior investment manager for the £23m fund.
Two more fund managers are expected to be appointed soon, increasing NorthStar's technology team to six investment professionals.
The company, based at St James'Gate, in Newcastle, has £33m of funds under management, focusing on high-growth and early-stage technology businesses in the region.
The cash was initially provided by the European Regional Development Fund and regional development agency One NorthEast.
Mr White has more than 20 years experience in early-stage technology investment, having worked in senior positions with industry leaders that include Aberdeen Murray Johnston and Top Technology.
