VILLAGERS will mark the anniversary of the end of the Second World War with events in their hall.
Quarrington Hill Community Association won a grant from the Big Lottery Fund to stage the celebration on Saturday in the community centre, from 10.30am to about 5pm.
The event will include a free buffet and there will be displays of military vehicles from the conflict, two aircraft cockpits for youngsters to explore, a re-enactment group, displays of uniforms and PC 49, dressed in the police uniform of the war years.
Association treasurer Clive Lawson said: "We are presenting all the children under 11 with a special VE Day medal from the Imperial War Museum.''
Mr Lawson added that a war time dance in the Royal British Legion club in the evening had sold out.
The event, which is free, will start with a short parade from the school, and Durham City MP Roberta Blackman-Woods will be attending.
