AN extensive refurbishment programme to replace kitchen and bathroom suites at two residential homes in north Durham has been completed.
Carried out at St John's Court and Graham Court in Sacriston, the scheme was started in March this year.
Chester-le-Street District Council commissioned contractors PMD Building Services to carry out the work following a consultation with tenants.
Councillors Alan Turner and Ralph Harrison and director of community services Ian Broughton joined the tenants and contractors to celebrate the completion of the work.
Tenants were thanked for their patience while the refurbishment was carried out over the past three months.
Coun Harrison said: "The people who have had the work done appear to be thrilled to bits. They have had new showers put in and new kitchen equipment and they are really smart.
"Every one said how good the workmen were when they were moving them around.
"They have done a grand job."
Project manager David Jackson highlighted some of the problems the builders experienced, such as the removal of asbestos and additional electrical refurbishment.
He said: "I would like to thank the tenants for their patience, tolerance and understanding throughout what has been a challenging period of change.
"I would also like to express my appreciation to work colleagues and contractors for their excellent work and co-operation throughout the refurbishment scheme."
