MOTORCYCLE instructors tested their skills on ice yesterday to help promote a North-East city’s temporary rink – and the potential for a permanent rink.

Members of Ace Motorcycle Training distributed thousands of leaflets highlighting the opening times of the temporary rink in Freeman’s Place, Durham City, and offering discounted entry fees.

The rink, next to the former Wasps’ stadium, will remain open until Sunday, April 18 – weather permitting.

Danish-born Jan Eskildsen wants to press ahead with plans for permanent £10m ice arena.

Ace Motorcycles owner Jim Rimmer said: “If we want a rink for the town we have to go out there and take action.”

Mr Rimmer organised his instructors to deliver leaflets in Consett, Chesterle- Street, around Durham City and Washington, Wearside.

The rink is open from 10am to 10pm, seven days a week. Admission is £7.50 for adults and £5.50 for juniors.
