Darlington Football Club will join a league campaign when they host a special Help for Heroes game today.
The Quakers will commemorate the Armed Forces to coincide with the Football League’s Help for Heroes week during their game against Torquay United at The Northern Echo Darlington Arena.
Matchday collections will be made on Saturday for Help for Heroes, which is the official charity of the Football League.
The Royal Dragoon Guards, based at Catterick Garrison, North Yorkshire, will be at the game.
Assistant manager Kevin Richardson said: “It promises to be a special occasion. The largest British Barracks in Europe, Catterick Garrison, is on our doorstep, so while it’s always important to recognise and support Help for Heroes, it’s particularly important for us.
“Everyone needs to recognise what our troops are fighting for, and we’re proud to be dedicating a league fixture to this cause.”
Discounted tickets are available for people in the Armed Forces and their families, on 0871-855-1883.
They are priced at £5 for adults and £3 for under 16s.
■ The club will hold a minute’s silence before the game in memory of Macclesfield Town manager Keith Alexander, who died on Wednesday.
