STUDENTS have been introduced to cycling as part of a scheme to get more young people on bikes.
Coaches from British Cycling’s development programme Go-Ride visited Hurworth School Maths and Computing College, in Hurworth, near Darlington, yesterday to give year seven, eight and nine pupils an introduction to cycling.
Instructors Alex McLean and Andy Samanjoul organised activities and games based around different cycling disciplines, including mountain biking, BMX, cyclo-cross, road bikes, speedway and track cycling.
The pair will spend nine days at the school over the next six weeks and the youngsters will be encouraged to join local Go-Ride cycling clubs.
Mr McLean said: “We really enjoyed the session.
There are a lot of potentially talented cyclists in the school, and I think they really enjoyed it and had a good laugh.”
