ONE man had to be cut free by firefighters tonight after an accident involving a minibus and a car.

The collision took place at about 10.30pm on a minor road between Harperley and Tanfield Lea, near Stanley, County Durham.

Two fire crews responded from Consett and High Handenhold, together with a special rescue unit from Bishop Auckland.

One man was cut free from the wreckage and was taken to the University Hospital of North Durham suffering from back and neck injuries. Two other men were also taken to hospital with minor injuries.
