POLICE have warned motorists to take care on the roads following an overnight frost.

The warning comes after a series of weather-related accidents in the region.

There were five seperate crashes on Bonemill Lane in Washington, Tyne and Wear, this morning.

Nobody was injured, but the road was closed for one-and-a-half hours while it was made safe.

The icy conditions also caused a three vehicle crash in the Crowther Road area of Washington.

Northumbria Police issued a statement urging motorists to take extra care on the icy conditions.
