The committee and members of Cockfield Club deserve a huge pat on the back tonight as it was announced that ALL the debts have been paid and they are now only waiting for ‘official’ confirmation from the court to say they are out of receivership.
Back in March it was estimated that the club owed some £71,000 - mainly to the Inland Revenue - but after a tremendous effort by the CIU auditors and the clubs new treasurer Peter Durnan, the ‘debt’ to the revenue turned out to be in the region of £4,000. However, receivers appointed by the Inland Revenue charged £13,000 and this only added to the clubs financial worries; All this because tax returns hadn’t been completed and sent in.
The members of the club have done an absolutely amazing job of raising money to save the club, with raffles, bring and buy sales etc as well as giving a lot of time and effort. People who simply brought along a few prizes to raffle deserve as much praise as anyone.
Although the clubs ‘funds’ have all but been depleted due the large debt, it is now on a level footing and with the continuing support of the people of this village and surrounding areas it can only go from strength to strength.
After all the negative press this village has been receiving of late, it is heart warming to see Cockfields community spirit come to the fore.
WELL DONE TO ALL CONCERNED.
