ONE of the concerns I've expressed over the past year about council publications is that they too often fail to give the full picture.
When information is selected to be as positive as possible to the controlling political party, it strays into propaganda.
That's not good and its why independent local newspapers are so important.
There was an interesting exchange this week at a "Talking Together" public consultation event organised by Darlington Borough Council at the Dolphin Centre.
The subject of the discussion was the authority's budget proposals, headlined by a council tax freeze.
One member of the audience criticised the announcement of the proposals in the council's Town Crier magazine.
While highlighting the council tax freeze, there was no indication in the magazine that it would be accompanied by 77 job cuts.
If it was left out by mistake, it's a serious omission. If it was a deliberate blurring of the full picture, it's unacceptable.
