THREE people have been arrested after a motorcyclist died following a collision with a car.
Commuters faced hours of traffic chaos following the crash on A184 Felling bypass in Gateshead at 6.23am this morning.
A police spokesman said a red Nissan Micra was in collision with the motorcyclist just near the Gateshead International Stadium.
The road was closed in both directions, between St James Road and Old Fold Road, in Felling until 11am.
The motorcyclist, who has not been named, was taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 7.25am.
Sergeant Paul Snaith said: "In order to build up a complete picture of the events leading up to the crash, we are appealing to anyone who saw the collision or either of the vehicles in the minutes before the crash to get in touch."
Three men have been arrested in connection with the incident on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
