Cockfield FC is having another cracking season under the guidance of manager Andrew Bowman.
Andrew was telling me that despite doing well in the league in the run up to Christmas, they’ve only managed to play one game in the last seven weeks due to the bad weather.
“It means a hell of a back-log and we’ll have to play a lot of games on an evening towards the back end of the season,” said Andrew, “but we’re down to the last sixteen in the ‘County Cup’ and those games always take preference over league games, it’s a nice position to be in.”
I should think it is! All of the other teams left in the County Cup are almost semi-professional - let’s just say most of the lads find £40 in their shoes when they come off the pitch! - So it’s a great achievement for Cockfield to get this far when all our lads get is a few sandwiches and a pasty, (maybe they could get Bernice to ‘warm them up a bit‘!) we wish them the best of luck in the next round which is away to ‘Sunderland Grangetown Florists’.
If the lads get past Sunderland, their next County Cup match is scheduled at 10-30am Sunday 14th February; Home to either Darlington DSRM Allstars or Greenside FC.
By the way, we wish a speedy recovery to Jonna -The Gazelle - Milroy, our star striker who is off injured with a gammy Knee. This has finally put paid to a lucrative transfer deal to Langdon Beck and so shattered his hopes of making the plane for South Africa, but their loss is our gain. I recon when Jonna’s fully fit he’s got a good half season left in him!
Get well soon mate!
