MAURA BUCHANAN, president of the Royal College of Nursing (RCN), met with nurses and healthcare assistants during a visit to the North-East yesterday.
Ms Buchanan began her visit to the region by giving a speech at Teesside University on the challenges and opportunities facing entrants to the nursing profession.
The RCN president then visited the private BMI Woodlands Hospital in Darlington, where she met managers, nurses and assistants.
Ms Buchanan was given an escorted tour of the facilities by Debbie Dobbs, executive director of the BMI Woodlands Hospital and Jenny Mc- Knight, director of nursing.
During her visit Ms Buchanan was able to discuss with nursing staff how the RCN can help them achieve professional development.
