A FAMILY of fundraisers will trek in Nepal to mark the 25th anniversary of a hospice – and give it a cash boost.
Husband and wife Graham and Margaret Millar are to be joined by their daughter, Lucy Robertson, on the trek for York’s St Leonard’s Hospice.
The family have had relatives treated by St Leonard’s and see the walk as a way of saying thank you.
They are to be joined in the venture from Bhara Pokari, Nepal, by other members of the hospice team, including director of fundraising Janet Morley.
The adventure takes place from October 28 to November 7. This is a return visit to Nepal for regular walker Mr Millar, chairman of the hospice’s trustees.
Many of the others have yet to experience high-altitude climbing, but they are each looking to raise at least £1,000 for the hospice.
Mrs Millar, of York, said: “Trekking in Nepal isn’t something I’ve considered before, but I’m really looking forward to the experience, and all that fantastic scenery.”
The trek is organised by Community Action Treks which will ensure the Nepalise people also benefit from the event.
The walkers will pass some of the country’s highest Himalayan peaks and will walk between four and eight hours a day. A training session is to take place in the Lake District to ready the adventurers.
The hospice fundraising centre can be contacted on 01904-777777 to pledge support to the venture.
