A PEDESTRIAN who died following a car accident in a village late at night might have collapsed before the incident happened.

Police are appealing for witnesses after an accident in Hurworth, near Darlington, at 11.49pm on Saturday.

Thick fog meant visibility is believed to have been as little as ten metres at the time of the incident.

The victim was David Paul Light, 58, who lived in the village.

The incident happened near the Emmerson Arms pub, round the corner from his home in Strait Lane.

Mr Light was taken to hospital with head injuries.

Police said Mr Light, who had a number of medical conditions, may have collapsed before the incident.

A blue Renault Clio car was travelling along Church Row towards Neasham Road when the accident happened.

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 0191-375-2159.
