A MAN has died after being pulled from the sea, police said today.
The RNLI received a call just before 4.50pm yesterday reporting a man in the sea off Scarborough, North Yorkshire, near the Sea Life Centre in the North Bay.
Crews including Scarborough RNLI, Scarborough and Burniston coastguard rescue teams and police officers attended the scene.
The man, who is believed to be local, was pulled from the sea by the lifeboat crew and airlifted by RAF helicopter to Scarborough District General Hospital, where North Yorkshire Police later confirmed he had been pronounced dead.
He is believed to have been wearing a jacket, jeans and boots when he was seen in the sea.
North Yorkshire Police said they are not yet in a position to name the man and are waiting for more information from the hospital.
