A WILDLIFE lover has thanked people who helped keep swans alive during the bad weather.
Linda Charlton, of the North-East Swan Rescue and Wildlife Trust, appealed to people to feed the swans and cygnets living at Riverside Park, in Chester-le-Street, County Durham, to ensure they did not go hungry.
Mrs Charlton said the response during the recent heavy snow had been overwhelming.
"I’d like to thank everybody, young and old, who braved the horrendous weather to come and feed the birds. It’s been fabulous."
The number of swans in the park has increased from 40 to 75, with some Canada Geese flying in, she said.
Mrs Charlton urged people to keep feeding the swans throughout the winter.
During spring and summer, the swans and ducks are well fed by visitors to the park.
