It has been found that 90% of the UK spends around 25 billion pounds per year on alcohol. It has been proven that 13% of woman and 27% of men drink more than the recommended amounts; some people drink because they are simply enjoying then selves at a party or are with their friends, to relieve stress, to relax, to be sociable, to accompany a meal, to enjoy the taste. But now we have people drinking alcohol because they depend on it, they think alcohol is all they live for “Out of 1,000 adults, 47 are likely to be dependent on alcohol; this is double the amount of people who are dependent on illegal drugs.”

The effects of alcohol are: feel more cheerful loss of control – more aggressive or tearful, loss balance vision becomes blurred or double, co-ordination is reduced so that actions become clumsy, les reliable judgement, loss of consciousness, become more talkative slower reactions feel more worried. When drink a large amount, alcohol can be a big risk to someone’s health and well being. Alcohol is a depressant drug. A lot of people drink alcohol when they have problems to make them selves feel better, but when they drink alcohol it makes them feel worse although they will feel better when they are drinking the alcohol but after they are done and they come back to normal (not drink any more) the alcohol they drank will make them feel worse. Because as you are drank alcohol affects the nerves that pass the messages round the body by slowing them down, so it act as a pain killer. The more a person drinks alcohol the greater the effect is on them. Alcohol also affects parts of the brain that are responsible for self control and so can produce the effects such they ones named above. People who abuse alcohol tend to have damaged relationships, unsafe behaviour and accidents, many fights, domestic violence and injuries.

1 glass of wine = 1 unit

1 half of beer/lager = 1 unit

I sherry = 1 unit

1 measure of spirit = 1unit

If men and woman follow this guide they will not have any significant risk to their health. If people exceed this guide they could end up with serious problems. The limits can also be used as a rough guide because a lot of different drinks have different strengths. For example 1 strong pint can be the some as more than one pint of ordinary beer.

To help drinkers judge how strong a drink is: all alcohol containers are filled with information they might or might need. The higher the percentage the the stronger the alcohol is. If you want to now the exact units of your beer you can by multiplying the volume of the drink in millilitres (ml) by the ABV and dividing the result by 1,000 The long term of alcohol abuses are: for long term effects for alcohol are cancer, heart disease, metal health problems, stroke, changes in physical appearance, diabetes, sexual health problems, man breast, pancreatitis, memory problem. My My conclusions are that a lot more young people drink alcohol because they are trying to fit with other people. And that a lot of people in the UK are getting more depended on alcohol, also that there id a lot of cheap alcohol young people can afford so I think alcohol prices should go up so young people don’t drink as much they do when they go out on Friday or Saturday night.
