LOTTERY winners who scooped over £10m in a syndicate win celebrated with a holiday in North Yorkshire - and got snowed in.

Pat Dale, 45, and Julie McGregor, 40, won just over £1.7m each as part of a £10,257,210 Lotto Double Rollover win between a syndicate of six.


But rather than jetting away to sunnier climes from the snow that had gripped Britain, the pair spent five days in a lodge at Pocklington, near York.

Pat, a divorcee from Throckley, Newcastle, said: "I had already booked to go with some friends to Pocklington for five days so I still went.

"Julie and her husband decided to join us so they booked another lodge.

"We ended up getting snowed in.

"For two days no vehicles could get to or from the lodges so we couldn't go anywhere.

"It was great though - we sat and drank champagne in a hot tub."

Julie, who has suffered from eye condition Nystgmus since birth, is hoping to use some of her winnings to have an operation to improve her vision.

Julie, from Gateshead, who is married to Duncan, 56, said: "I'm registered partially sighted and have never been able to drive.

"I can't have laser eye surgery so I'm going to look at options to have an operation to correct my sight."

The two spoke of the life-changing win at a press conference at St James' Park in Newcastle - the other four members wished to remain anonymous.

Julie and her dad Noel Grant, 59, hold Newcastle United season tickets, but Julie said she wouldn't be upgrading her seat in the Milburn Stand.

She worked as a duty manager at a leisure centre in Newcastle but quit her job of 20 years after the win.

She said: "I want to visit Patagonia to go whale watching."

The pair have played the lottery for the last two years and all drink together at The Irish Centre in Newcastle.

The group put one number in each for Saturday's Lotto draw, but the week before their huge win they won £4.70 and decided to put five lines on Wednesday 30th's draw.

Pat took voluntary redundancy from her job at the council last year and now runs a catering company.

She said: "I got a phone call on New Year's Eve to say we had won on the Lotto and I didn't believe it.

"Eventually we got them to photograph the ticket and text it to us."

She added: "I've always wanted a Porsche Carerra - well now I can get one."
