I know we all make mistakes but the geographical ignorance within the national media is appalling at times.
BBC national television news last night reported: "A man has died after falling into the River Tees at Newcastle."
If it happens north of Watford, they haven't got a clue.
The tragedy happened at Stockton-on-Tees.
National newspapers, including the quality end of the market, frequently get their geography wrong when it comes to the North-East.
Darlington often ends up in Cleveland or Tyneside or North Yorkshire.
Maybe we should publish a Northern Echo guide to the North-East and make it available to the BBC.
