A SNOWPLOUGH is not often on a bride and groom’s wedding list.

But it was certainly needed in the case of Charlie and Alison Collins.

The couple feared the extreme weather conditions would mean they could not use the Rolls-Royce and Austin Princess they had planned.

But they managed to marry at All Saints RC Church, in Kitswell Road, Lanchester, on Saturday after Durham County Council ploughed and gritted the roads nearby.

A group of four-wheel drive enthusiasts also made sure one of Alison’s aunts could get to Berwick train station from her home in the Scottish Border region.

4x4 Response North-East also transported the wedding cake and other items to Durham Castle, where the couple had their reception.

Alison’s mother, Judith Welsh, said: “It went really well and everyone had a lovely day.

“We are so grateful for all of the help we had and we could not have done it without the assistance people were kind enough to give.”

The couple are now planning for their honeymoon in Mexico.
