As wintry weather continues to affect much of the UK, train operator East Coast is continuing to operate a revised timetable today.

Revised timetables will also be in place throughout this weekend on East Coast’s two busiest routes, from London to Leeds, and from London to York, Newcastle and Edinburgh.

Customers are advised to check travel times before making a journey. Revised timetables for today can be viewed online at www.eastcoast.co.uk in the ‘travel information’ section. Revised schedules for Saturday and Sunday will also be available on the website later today.

Travel information is also available by calling National Rail Enquiries on 08457 484950, with a recorded summary also available on 08453 017641, selecting option 5 then option 1 for East Coast.

Due to points problems at Carstairs caused by the icy conditions, East Coast passengers travelling between Glasgow and stations in North East England and Yorkshire, today or this weekend, are advised to use ScotRail services between Glasgow Queen Street and Edinburgh Waverley to connect with East Coast trains at Edinburgh. Those travelling between Glasgow, Motherwell and London should use Virgin Trains services via the West Coast route.

Following an operating incident earlier this week at Carrbridge, south of Inverness, earlier this week, East Coast’s one daily service to Inverness is operating only as far as Perth, where it will terminate. Passengers for stations north of Perth on this route are being advised not to travel until the route can be reopened, as severe weather in the Highlands means road transport cannot be guaranteed. This advice will also remain in force throughout the weekend.

Passengers with advance booked tickets and reservations for our services which are cancelled today or this weekend may travel on the next available East Coast service. Those who opted not to travel yesterday owing to the weather conditions can do so today.

East Coast tickets are being accepted by both Virgin West Coast between London and Glasgow, by ScotRail between Edinburgh and Glasgow, and by First Capital Connect between London and Peterborough via Stevenage.

East Coast is accepting First TransPennine Express tickets for journeys between York and Newcastle, and Northern Rail tickets between Newcastle and Morpeth.

East Coast spokesman John Gelson said: “Despite the current severe weather, we are continuing to keep trains running on our busiest routes and are helping to keep Britain moving. Our trains are proving more resilient than either flying or driving for long-distance travel.

“Some of our trains are also making additional stops to cover for services normally run by other operators which are affected by the weather.”
